Dear Parent or Guardian,
We are delighted that you are interested in enrolling your child at Alabama’s only Waldorf School! Once you have read through the information below about the enrollment process, you can contact our Admissions Director, Rachel Baay, to schedule a tour.
Steps for Admission
- Tour our school!
This is an informational session designed to introduce you to Waldorf Education as it is carried out at AWS. You will hear about the trajectory of the curriculum from preschool through Grade 8, as well as a short history of Waldorf Education. This is also your opportunity to visit the classes while they are in session. Tours are offered every Tuesday at 9am. Please call the Office to reserve your spot.
Complete an Application for Admission and submit it, along with a $100 non-refundable, one-time fee, to a staff member in the AWS office.
- Classroom Observation
This is an important part of the admissions process because it is when the child actually visits the prospective classroom to see what a regular Waldorf school day is like. During the student’s visit, both s/he and the teacher have the opportunity to ensure the class is a good fit. If it is not a fit, the Admissions Director or observing teacher will let the parent/guardian know. If the class is a good fit for the child, the Admissions Director will contact the parent to set up a parent/teacher interview.
- Parent Interview
The teacher and parent will meet to discuss classroom expectations and school policies, particularly our policies on healthy foods and limited exposure to media and screen time at home. This is also the time when any questions or concerns may be addressed by either the parent(s) or the teacher to ensure the school is a good fit for the prospective family.
- Enrollment Contract
If your child is accepted, you will be asked to complete and sign an Enrollment Contract that includes a non-refundable Registration Fee of $150. In the case of a full class, your name will be added to a waiting list and we will notify you as soon as space in the program becomes available.
- Meeting with the Finance Manager
The final step of the admissions process is a meeting with AWS Finance Manager to discuss tuition payment options with FACTS, our third party billing service. This is also when the parent may follow up with questions s/he may have about the school’s Tuition Adjustment Program (TAP). Students may not begin classes until the entire tuition adjustment process is complete, including the submission of the application, supporting documents, conversation (if necessary), and the final determination of the adjusted tuition.
