Administration Profiles

Administrator, Lisa Grupe, Ph.D., has a doctorate in Developmental Psychology and joined AWS' faculty  first as a kindergarten teacher (in 2000) and then as a class teacher in 2001. She completed her Waldorf Grades certification in 2003 and graduated a Grades class in May of 2009.  In April of 2009, Dr. Grupe began the part-time Waldorf Administrative Certification program and started as the School Administrator in June of 2009.  She completed her administrative training in October of 2010.  Her passionate belief in Waldorf education centers around the manner in which Waldorf philosophy anticipates the child’s changing developmental needs in social, cognitive, and emotional realms.  

Admissions, Rachel Baay, joined the Administrative Team in 2011 after spending 2 very active years on the Marketing Committee. She has two children in the Grades program. She takes over as Admissions Director after a year serving as Community Development Liaison.

Marketing, Opal South, M.F.A., graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a Bachelor's degree and from Hollins University with a Master's in Fine Arts (Children's Literature). She joined the faculty as a kindergarten teacher and then taught first, second, and third grades. She brought much experience with the Waldorf methodology and philosophy to the Admissions position for three years. She has served on the Hiring Committee and now chairs the Marketing Committee. 

Finance, Terri Lowry, owner of Lowry Bookkeeping Services, LLC, keeps the finances at Alabama Waldorf School under control. Her extensive expertise with both people and Quickbooks make her a valuable asset to the Admin team. With her husband, she also co-owns Complete Music, a company that handles music and photo booths for festive events.
