Alabama Waldorf School is blessed to have our school founder, class teacher mentor, and biggest supporter, Sheila Rubin, returning to her teaching roots to lead our Parent-Toddler program. Ms. Rubin is excited to come back to her early childhood education roots, having established the school (then known as The Redmont School in the Waldorf Tradition) in 1987. Ms. Rubin began teaching a class of 1st graders in 2000 and subsequently "looped" with them from year to year until their 8th grade graduation in 2006. Ms. Rubin then left her class teacher position and began mentoring other Waldorf teachers. Since then Sheila has become a grandmother and commutes to Nashville to care for her grandsons during the week. Sheila is also an acclaimed Indian dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Her Natyananda school and company, founded in 1978 in Birmingham, presents Indian classical dance in the purest tradition, while seeking to use dance as a catalyst for cohesion among cultures and a medium for exploration between and within communities.
